Are we witnessing historically monumental American insanity?

Being elderly means that . . .

. . . one has seen a lot of things before. Nevertheless, current levels of US national insanity are new to me.

For instance, the Biden Administration is actively trying to start wars with Russia and China. See here and here.

Then, there's the related fact that the Establishment, and its pet Deep State, intentionally put dementia-exhibiting Joe into 2021's American presidency.

Humorously, I guess . . .

. . . if metaphor and symbolism are your things — the thrice-stumbling Biden symbolically disappeared from view recently — here at 01:58 minutes into the video clip — while climbing into Air Force One.

And in another video segment — here, beginning at 25:26 minutes — stone-looking Joe could not recall his own Secretary of Defense's name, purpose, or the building that that the "guy" works in.

Yet, as I have said, President Biden — or his handlers — are busy trying to drum up nuclear-armed trouble with the only two militaries on the planet that are capable of doing the US major damage.

It is a curious strategy — even for bumbling 'Muhrika

Meaning that it is difficult to rake in Military Industrial Complex profit — America's most typifying business — when the nation has suddenly become the equivalent of a radioactive barbecue.

Or alternatively, it is challenging keeping the profit-line consistently high, when one runs out of human cannon fodder and materiel to send to the two foreign wars that one is destined to lose — simply because one picked the wrong adversaries and geographies to fight them on.

Are we batshit nuts?

I think so. I've thought this for a very long time.

The Greek tragedians would have called the American illness, terminal hubris.

I would settle, instead, on a diagnosis of end-stage arrogance. Ours is different, and arguably less noble, than the Greeks' less inane version of the same self-brought soul-disease.

Of our US situation . . .

. . . David Lindorff observed that:

The truth is that the whole US needs mental health counselling.

Half the country is celebrating at having just installed in the White House a man who apparently is still living in the 1960s Cold War era with a foreign policy and appointees in national security posts that together seem hell-bent on creating two massive enemy nations, Russia and China, both armed to the teeth, instead of trying to achieve peaceful relations with both those countries.

Meanwhile, the other half of the country are mostly white racists who want to prevent people of color from voting, and view anyone who is non-white regardless of birth or US citizenship as interlopers with no right to be here, and as deserving to be being beaten up, harassed or even killed.

For this country to be focused on such misguided issues as a wholly unnecessary arms race, military confrontations and imaginary threats, and internal affairs that are not its own business, with such an existential crisis actually facing the US and all of humanity is not just depressing, it’s infuriating.

We can dig a bit deeper

Caitlin Johnstone, whom I frequently refer y'all to, thinks that propaganda-controlled minds are the United States' core lunacy problem.

In that vein — and exactly as Johnstone has repeatedly put forward herself — Edward Curtin recently insightfully pointed to the Establishment's tactic of dividing and conquering the Public for profit:

These days such massive media conglomerates are seemingly starkly divided and basically serve as adjuncts of one political party or the other.

[Yet] all sides of the corporate media serve the same overarching political function: to divide and conquer the population; to set the so-called left against right; middle America against the east and west coasts; white against black; working class against middle-class; men against women; husbands against wives, etc.

[Their purpose is] To keep people, who in reality should be allies, fighting with each other.

It is a classic strategy of divide-and-conquer that is carried out by the mainstream media pursuant to their unstated mandate. It is not an accident . . . .

And crucially, it is anchored in the false premise of the myth of left vs. right with a reasonable center somewhere between.

Such a center has never existed. While left and right might once have been useful categories, they have long since outlived their usefulness. They now just serve to engender pseudo-debates.

Pseudo-debates are not new but they are highly effective.  They are debates based on false premises.

In this case, the premise is that the massive corporate media conglomerates are not part of the same system of control and containment of the population, but are genuine opponents in the battle for truth and democracy.

Accept this premise and you have entered into endless debates leading nowhere.

It is a classic method of intelligence agencies to sow uncertainty and confusion and to have people following Alice down the rabbit hole, tumbling and tumbling into an endless void as they argue continually about nothing.

Ergo, the self-evident insanity that fully describes American culture on all sides.

This is, also, where the hubris element enters

On the Public's side, there is the insanity of being tricked into unipolarly arguing over divisive things that are smaller in scope and importance, than what We the People should be banding together about.

On Leadership's side, there is the insanity of believing in its ability to control Milling Rabbles — hither and yon — in aid of Imperial Capitalism's unending looting and pillaging.

Power goes, usually destructively, to one's head.

The moral? — Insanity rules America at all levels

Someone is going to have to put this fire out, before the whole place blows up.

Saner nations (than ours) may wind up doing the extinguishing, just to save themselves. That process will be, predictably, painful for us.

It would be nice if a significant proportion of Americans would wake up and look around. The outside of the "rabbit hole" looks notably different than its inside.

Clarity is another word for this difference in view.
