“Junk” is the nicest term I can use for the sample we received

Our sample, bought in May 2011 at Best Buy, quit running after two weeks.  Since that happened overnight, everything in the freezer thawed and had to be thrown out.

I got the refrigerator running again by turning the control dial to “off” and restarting after a few minutes.  However, after a period of inconsistent up and down temperature cycles, the unit failed again a couple of weeks later.  This time it stayed dead.

Poor repair and customer service

Haier told my wife that it had no authorized repair facilities in Colorado Springs.  To take advantage of the refrigerator’s warranty, she would have to cut the power cord off and send it to Haier at her expense.

Then she would have to pay another $14.95 for the company to send her a replacement.  The service representative pointed out that this was only half the actual shipping cost.  Whoopee.

Best Buy gave us a store credit, when we returned the refrigerator

Best Buy’s integrity emphasizes the importance of doing business with reputable retailers in an era of sloppy, cheating manufacturers.

Haier not recommended under any circumstances

Occasionally bad product samples are to be expected.  Garbage customer service is not.  Haier gets low marks on both fronts.  I won’t buy another Haier-branded product.

I would guess that the same “background” manufacturer is responsible for spitting out equally bad (and badly-supported) products under other brand names.
