The United Nations chose Saudi Arabia to advance women's rights — even Cynical Me is left groping for words

Background — what is the Commission on the Status of Women?
The Commission on the Status of Women is a daughter body to the United Nations' 54 member Economic and Social Council.
The Commission describes itself as "the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women."
The "OMG"
The 54 member Council just elected women-repressing Saudi Arabia to the Commission.
Yes, that's right
Saudi Arabia:
proud enslaver of as many women as it can get its kingly hands on,
deep-pocketed friend to murderous Wahhabist terrorists everywhere,
and (not coincidentally)
the United States' best friend forever —
has been elected for the (apparently pretend) purpose of gender-equalization worldwide.
The UN kept the vote secret
The United States did manage to retain some self-respect by forcing a vote, contrary to the customary process of acclamation.
But the vote was secret. Which defeats imposing accountability:
[M]ath tells us that at least 15 of the following democratic member states of the U.N. Economic and Social Council voted to elect Saudi Arabia to the U.N.’s women’s rights commission:
Andorra
Argentina
Australia
Belgium
Brazil
Chile
Colombia
Czech Republic
Estonia
France
Germany
India
Ireland
Italy
Japan
Norway
Republic of Korea
South Africa
Spain
Sweden
UK
USA

The moral? — It is often difficult to detect what the United Nations is good for
Certainly not rationally principled, non-hypocritical behavior.
